Paradox (Olivia) vs Workstream (2026): Features, Pricing and Which to Pick

One sells the candidate conversation. The other wants to run your hourly workforce from application to paycheck.

A note before you read: NTRVSTA wrote this page, and our own product competes with both of these in places. We took every Paradox and Workstream detail from the two companies' websites and public news, and we mention a third choice near the end.

The "paradox (olivia) vs workstream" decision mostly comes down to restaurants, retail and franchise groups. Both win hourly hiring deals. They just stop at different points: Paradox at a hired, onboarded candidate, Workstream at a paid, scheduled, compliant employee.

The short answer

Choose Paradox if you are a large employer that wants a polished text assistant handling apply, screening and scheduling, and you already have an HR and payroll system (Paradox is now owned by Workday). Choose Workstream if you are a multi-location operator that wants hiring, onboarding, payroll and labor compliance in a single platform built for hourly teams, with voice AI that answers and screens applicant calls. Neither lists a price, so plan on demos with both.

Where Paradox is stronger

Paradox's strength is depth in the candidate conversation for big brands. Olivia walks applicants through applying, answers questions, asks screeners, books the interview and follows up with onboarding tasks and surveys, all by text or chat. Paradox claims Olivia recognizes more than 100 languages and translates on the fly.

  • Scale references. Paradox lists Chipotle, 7-Eleven, General Motors, Medtronic and Tractor Supply as customers.
  • Works beside your HR core. It connects to Workday and SAP SuccessFactors, and its Candidate Experience Agent is described as not replacing your system of record.
  • Event hiring. Built-in hiring events and a career-site builder help when you staff a new location or a seasonal surge.
  • Workday ownership. If Workday is your HCM, buying from the same parent can simplify vendor reviews.

Where Workstream is stronger

Workstream goes past the hire. Its Essentials tier adds mobile onboarding, I-9 and E-Verify, and team chat. All-in-one adds full-service payroll, tax filing and labor compliance monitoring. Workstream also says you can run it yourself or have its "AI experts" handle payroll and HR for you.

  • Phone-first applicants. Voice AI picks up applicant calls around the clock, runs a first-round screen and books the interview.
  • One vendor for hourly ops. Hiring, payroll, time tracking and compliance alerts share one login and one record per worker.
  • Plain-English reporting. AskAI answers questions about your data and can send a weekly report on request.
  • Restaurant focus. Workstream says 46 of the top 50 restaurant brands use it, naming Taco Bell, Culver's and Five Guys.

Pricing compared

Paradox shows no plans or prices, only a demo form. Workstream shows its plan structure but no numbers: Hiring (ATS, Voice AI and Video AI screening, text-to-apply, scheduling), Essentials (adds onboarding and HR basics), All-in-one (adds payroll and compliance) and Premium (adds benefits, ACA tracking and custom work). Time and scheduling, ACA and benefits, and compliance are also sold as add-ons.

The fair comparison is Paradox's quote against Workstream's Hiring or Essentials tier, since that is where the products overlap. If you price Workstream's All-in-one, subtract what you pay today for payroll and time tracking before you compare. Our Paradox pricing and Workstream pricing guides cover the questions to ask each vendor.

A third option: NTRVSTA

For pure hourly hiring with text apply and payroll in the mix, Paradox and Workstream are the better fit, and NTRVSTA is not an ATS or a payroll system. Where we help is the rest of the org chart: managers, specialists and corporate roles that need sourcing and a real interview. Carolina works inside your current ATS, HRIS and calendar. See plans on our pricing section.

  • Ranks resumes against the job and explains each ranking.

Questions

What is the main difference between Paradox and Workstream?

Scope. Paradox centers on Olivia, an AI assistant that handles apply, screening questions and scheduling over chat and SMS for large employers. Workstream is an operating platform for hourly teams that adds onboarding, payroll, time tracking and labor compliance to its hiring tools.

Does Workstream publish prices?

No. Its pricing page lists four plans (Hiring, Essentials, All-in-one and Premium) with a Get in touch link on each and no dollar amounts. It was advertising up to 8 months free on the All-in-one payroll plan when we checked, with terms not stated on the page.

Can Paradox run payroll like Workstream?

Paradox doesn't describe payroll on its site. It covers hiring and onboarding steps, and since Workday completed its acquisition of Paradox in October 2025, payroll and HR usually sit in Workday or another system you already use.

Which one has AI phone screening?

Workstream. It says its Voice AI answers applicant calls, runs first-round screens, books interviews and places reminder calls. Paradox screens through chat and SMS conversations and sells recorded video interviews, and it doesn't describe a voice interviewer.
