Workstream vs NTRVSTA: an all-in-one hourly platform or an AI recruiter for your stack?

Workstream wants to be the system that runs your hourly team. NTRVSTA's Carolina works inside the systems you already have. Here's how to choose.

Full disclosure: this Workstream vs NTRVSTA page was written by NTRVSTA, the maker of one of the two products. Every Workstream detail comes from Workstream's own website, and we link each source at the bottom.

The short answer

Choose Workstream if you run restaurants, retail stores or care sites with hourly staff and want hiring, onboarding, payroll, scheduling and labor compliance in one system, with a Voice AI that answers applicant calls around the clock. Choose NTRVSTA if you already have an ATS and HR stack you plan to keep and want an AI recruiter, Carolina, that sources, scores resumes, runs live AI interviews and books panels inside it, for hourly and salaried roles alike. Workstream replaces several systems. NTRVSTA adds an agent to the ones you have.

How NTRVSTA works

NTRVSTA doesn't ask you to move anything. Carolina, the AI recruiter at its center, connects to the ATS, HRIS, payroll, calendar and chat tools you already use, from Workday and Rippling to ADP, Gusto and Slack, and does recruiting work there. For each open role she sources candidates and reaches out by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Every resume gets a score against the job and a short explanation of the ranking.

Candidates who fit take a live AI interview whenever it suits them, with Carolina as a video avatar or a voice. She changes the next question based on the last answer and can run a technical screen for a developer as easily as a behavioral one for a store manager. Your team gets a score breakdown, video clips of key moments and a shareable report, and Carolina books the next round on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoom or Calendly. Ask her pipeline questions in plain English, or read her morning digest in Slack or Teams.

Every type of action has a setting: suggest, ask first, or auto. Offers and pay changes always wait for a person. Setup usually takes a few days, depending on customization.

How Workstream works

Workstream describes itself as the AI-native operating platform that runs your hourly team. The Hiring plan covers applicant tracking, text-to-apply with QR codes and posters, job-board posting, applicant messaging and interview scheduling. Higher plans add mobile onboarding with I-9 and E-Verify, team chat, full-service payroll, labor compliance monitoring, and benefits and ACA tracking. Workstream also offers "AI experts," a managed option where its staff run payroll and HR for you.

It names five AI agents. Voice AI answers applicant calls, runs first-round screens, books interviews and makes reminder calls. Video AI lets applicants record answers from their phone. Payroll AI flags timecard issues, Compliance flags problems like missed breaks or pay below minimum wage, and AskAI answers questions in plain English and can send a report weekly. Workstream says 46 of the top 50 restaurant brands use it, naming Taco Bell, Culver's, Firehouse Subs and Five Guys among others.

When Workstream is the better choice

  • You want one system to replace your ATS, onboarding tool and payroll provider for hourly staff.
  • Applicants call your stores, and you want every call answered and screened after hours.
  • You need labor compliance flags, such as missed breaks or new minimum wage rates, tied to hiring and payroll.
  • You'd like a vendor's staff to run payroll and HR for you, which Workstream offers as a managed service.

Here is where NTRVSTA isn't the right fit. It's not an ATS, a payroll system or a system of record, so if you want one tool to replace your ATS for hourly hiring, Workstream fits better. Very high-volume hourly hiring built on SMS apply and chat scheduling is also what Workstream, Fountain and Paradox are designed for. We're newer and smaller than these vendors, with no published case studies yet, and we don't publish a proprietary candidate database.

Pricing compared

Workstream lists four plans on its pricing page (Hiring, Essentials, All-in-one and Premium) but no prices, and it was running a promotion of up to eight months of free payroll on All-in-one when we checked. Time tracking and shift scheduling are sold as add-ons.

NTRVSTA's pricing is public on our pricing section:

  • Starter: $0. Your first role is free, with 10 AI interviews and no card.
  • Team: $490/mo billed annually, or $590 paid monthly. 60 AI interviews a month, then $12 each, with up to 10 seats.
  • Scale: $1,490/mo on an annual plan ($1,790 if you pay monthly), including 250 AI interviews a month and $9 for each one after that.
  • Enterprise and agencies: priced by the hire or by the seat.

One AI interview is a single live session of up to 60 minutes. Team billed monthly works out to about $9.83 per interview for the 60 included, and annual billing saves about 17%. Keep in mind the comparison isn't like for like: a Workstream quote may cover onboarding and payroll, while our price covers recruiting work only.

Who should pick which

  • If you're replacing your ATS and payroll for hourly locations, pick Workstream.
  • If you're keeping Workday, Greenhouse, Lever or another ATS, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you hire salaried, technical or corporate roles alongside hourly ones, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If most applicants phone your stores, pick Workstream for its Voice AI line.
  • If you need a published NYC Local Law 144 audit of your AI interviews, pick NTRVSTA; details are on our compliance page.
  • If you want a vendor to run payroll and HR for you, pick Workstream.

Questions

Is Workstream an ATS?

Yes. Workstream includes its own applicant tracking system, with text-to-apply, job posting, applicant messaging and interview scheduling, and its higher plans add onboarding, payroll, compliance and benefits. NTRVSTA is not an ATS. It connects to the one you have.

What does Workstream's Voice AI do?

Workstream says Voice AI answers applicant calls at any hour, runs first-round screening calls, books interviews and makes reminder calls, which it says cut interview no-shows by 55%. Its separate Video AI lets applicants record answers for a manager to review as a highlight reel.

Does Workstream publish its prices?

No. Workstream's pricing page lists four plans (Hiring, Essentials, All-in-one and Premium) with a contact link instead of prices, plus a promotion of up to eight months of free payroll on the All-in-one plan. NTRVSTA publishes its plans, starting with a $0 Starter plan.

Can I use NTRVSTA and Workstream together?

Workstream doesn't list NTRVSTA as an integration, and we don't list Workstream among our 70 connected systems, so check with both teams before planning on it. Both connect to ADP, Checkr and Indeed, and NTRVSTA also offers a REST API and SFTP.
