Best AI interview software in 2026

Eight AI interview tools compared on format, evidence, compliance and price, including when a competitor is the better pick.

Full disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this guide to the best AI interview software, and our own product is one of the eight picks. We kept every fact about other tools to what they publish, with sources at the end, and we say plainly where another tool beats us.

TL;DR

The best AI interview software runs a real two-way interview and shows why each candidate got their score. If you hire across technical and non-technical roles, start by comparing NTRVSTA, HireVue and CodeSignal. For engineering-only, frontline, or proctoring-heavy hiring, a specialist below will fit better.

  • Best for live, adaptive interviews across technical and non-technical roles, with public pricing: NTRVSTA (us)
  • Best for enterprise teams that want one vendor and deep compliance documentation: HireVue
  • Best for low-cost AI interviews for engineering and go-to-market roles: CodeSignal
  • Best for coding and AI-fluency interviews inside a work canvas: HackerRank (Chakra)
  • Best for frontline, high-volume hiring: Ribbon

What actually matters when choosing AI interview software

Start with the format. Every AI interview tool here is sold as an AI interview platform, but they do different things. Some run a live, two-way interview that reacts to each answer. Some record answers to fixed prompts (one-way video) and score them later. Others are coding tests with an AI layer, or notetakers for interviews that humans run. Take each interview yourself as a candidate before you buy. Our guide to one-way vs live AI interviews covers the trade-offs.

Next, look at evidence. Look for scores broken down by skill, transcripts or video clips you can check, and a person making the final call. See how AI interviews are scored for what to ask. If you hire in New York City, read our NYC Local Law 144 guide and ask whether each vendor's bias audit is published, who ran it, and when.

Finally, check the pricing model and fit. Prices in this list range from public monthly plans to custom quotes with candidate minimums, so work out the cost per completed interview at your real volume. Then check ATS fit and extras like proctoring, ID checks or SMS outreach.

1. NTRVSTA (us)

We put NTRVSTA first because this guide's angle (a live interview that adapts, for any role, with public pricing) is exactly what we built. NTRVSTA's AI interviewer talks with candidates live, as a video avatar or by audio, and raises or lowers difficulty based on each answer. It covers technical roles (programming languages, frameworks, and system design on an interactive whiteboard) and non-technical ones (STAR behavioral questions, communication, leadership). A hint system shows how candidates take guidance, and candidates interview 24/7.

Each interview produces a score breakdown, video snippets of key moments, and a shareable report. AI resume scoring ranks every resume against your job description. Pricing is public: a $0 Free Demo, then $299, $699 and $1,999 a month, plus custom Enterprise plans. We also publish an independent NYC Local Law 144 bias audit by Asenion, finalized October 20, 2026, on our compliance page.

Where NTRVSTA isn't the right fit: it's an interview and screening layer, not an ATS, and its native ATS list (Lever and others) is shorter than big suites'. A public API is coming soon but isn't available yet. It isn't built for high-volume hourly hiring with chat scheduling or SMS apply. It's also newer, with fewer published enterprise case studies.

Best for: teams that want a live, adaptive first-round interview for technical and non-technical roles, with pricing they can see before a sales call.

2. HireVue

HireVue says its AI Interviewer, launched in June 2026, drafts questions and rubrics from the job description, runs a two-way voice interview 24/7 with probing follow-ups, and scores each answer against the role's criteria with an explanation. It sits inside a broad platform with one-way and live video interviews, game-based assessments, skills tests and a career-site chat agent.

HireVue lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001 and FedRAMP, and says its fairness audits cover NYC Local Law 144. Pricing isn't published. Read our NTRVSTA vs HireVue comparison or the HireVue alternatives list for more.

Best for: mid-market and enterprise teams that want one long-established vendor for AI screening, video interviews and assessments.

3. CodeSignal

CodeSignal sells coding assessments and an AI Interviewer. It says candidates talk with the agent by phone or browser on their own schedule. It asks follow-up questions when answers are thin and returns an overall score, a skills evaluation, insights and a transcript, with humans making the decision. It offers prebuilt interviewers for sales, finance, marketing, accounting, recruiting, BDR and product roles, plus custom ones.

Pricing is public. Build starts at $79/mo billed annually (or $99/mo monthly) and covers product, design and engineering interviewers. Grow is $479/mo billed annually and adds sales, customer success and marketing. CodeSignal doesn't describe a video avatar.

Best for: teams that want low-cost, self-serve AI interviews across engineering and go-to-market roles, next to proven coding tests.

4. HackerRank (Chakra)

HackerRank's AI interviewer, Chakra, went generally available on October 5, 2026. HackerRank says Chakra opens a canvas with a real-world problem, watches how the candidate works with an AI assistant, asks adaptive voice follow-ups about their decisions, and scores each competency with evidence. It targets technical and technical-adjacent roles such as AI engineer and forward-deployed engineer, and HackerRank recommends a desktop.

HackerRank's Starter plan is $199/mo and Pro is $449/mo, but Chakra's own price isn't published. The Chakra page mentions bias audits in line with NYC Local Law 144, and HackerRank lists 40+ ATS, calendar and video integrations.

Best for: engineering teams that want to test coding and AI fluency in a realistic work setting.

5. Interviewer.AI

Interviewer.AI builds an interview from your job description and sends candidates a link. Its Essential plan ($199/mo) is AI-scored one-way video plus resume screening. Its Professional plan ($399/mo) adds what Interviewer.AI calls conversational, avatar-led interviews with dynamic follow-up questions, plus fraud checks. ATS integrations are on the custom Enterprise plan.

There's a 14-day free trial on paid plans, and Interviewer.AI says it supports 10+ languages.

Best for: SMB and mid-market teams that want low-cost, self-serve AI video and avatar screening.

6. Alex (formerly Apriora)

Alex, which used to be called Apriora, describes itself as an AI recruiter. It says it scores applications for fraud risk, screens resumes, runs an always-on first-round interview by phone or video, and books qualified candidates onto team calendars. It also offers proctoring and an ID-to-selfie check. Alex says it supports 30 languages and 33+ ATS integrations, and it announced $20M in total funding in September 2025.

Pricing isn't published.

Best for: staffing firms and enterprises that want a full AI first-round recruiter with built-in fraud, ID and proctoring checks.

7. Ribbon

Ribbon says its AI interviewer runs live two-way voice or video interviews that adapt to answers, available 24/7 on any phone. It scores responses against custom rubrics, ranks applicants, and adds sourcing and SMS, WhatsApp and email outreach, mainly for frontline roles. Ribbon says it has an NYC Local Law 144 bias audit, last audited in 2025.

Pricing isn't published, but Ribbon offers a 7-day free trial. Note that Dayforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Ribbon on October 23, 2026. The deal had not closed when we checked.

Best for: frontline and high-volume teams in warehouse, retail, hospitality or healthcare hiring.

8. Talview (Ivy)

Talview says Ivy is a human-like AI video interviewer with multilingual, brand-aligned personas that asks contextual follow-ups and evaluates answers in real time. Talview's bigger story is integrity: it also sells AI proctoring, identity verification, and live interview rooms with deepfake detection, and much of its base is assessment and exam bodies.

Pricing is custom and unit-based, with a minimum commitment of roughly 150 to 200 candidates, per Talview. It lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.

Best for: enterprises and certification bodies that need an AI interviewer plus strong proctoring.

Questions

What is AI interview software?

It runs part of a job interview for you. The strongest tools run a live, two-way conversation that adapts to each answer, then score it with evidence. Others record answers to fixed questions, test coding, or take notes on interviews that humans run.

Is a live AI interview better than a one-way video interview?

For most roles, a live interview gives you more signal, because it can follow up on vague answers and change difficulty. One-way video is simpler and works for quick screens with fixed questions. Try both as a candidate before you decide.

Do AI interview tools make the hiring decision?

They shouldn't. HireVue and CodeSignal both say humans make the final decision. Keep a person accountable for each decision, with access to the evidence behind every score.

How much does AI interview software cost?

Of the tools here, CodeSignal starts at $79/mo billed annually, and Interviewer.AI and HackerRank start at $199/mo. NTRVSTA starts at $299/mo, with a $0 Free Demo plan. HireVue, Alex, Ribbon and Talview don't publish prices.
