Heads up: this list was written by NTRVSTA, the company behind one of the micro1 alternatives on it. We describe every other product using only what its maker publishes, and the links are at the end.
If you came here looking for micro1 alternatives, you probably remember Zara, micro1's AI recruiter. Here's what changed. micro1's site now describes the company as a "data lab to train frontier models & evaluate agents," and its old AI interviewer page shows the data-lab page instead. Zara still exists, but micro1 says it interviews people applying through micro1, for micro1's own talent pool. Employers buy vetted experts and data services, not interview software. So if you want an AI interviewer you run on your own applicants, you'll need another tool. If you want pre-vetted contractors, micro1 may still fit.
micro1 alternatives at a glance
1. NTRVSTA (us)
micro1 described Zara as an on-demand conversational interview with technical, scenario and coding questions. NTRVSTA covers that ground, but you run it for your roles. Our AI interviewer holds a live conversation as a video avatar or audio only, and it shifts difficulty with every answer, so a senior engineer and a junior one get different interviews. The exam library includes Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js, AI/ML and DevOps tools, and system-design rounds come with an interactive whiteboard.
It isn't only for engineers. The same tool runs STAR behavioral interviews and soft-skills checks, and a hint system shows how candidates use guidance. After each interview you get scores for technical skills, English proficiency and communication, plus video snippets. Where we're not a fit: we don't source or supply candidates, there's no public API yet, and our native ATS list (Lever and others) is short. See NTRVSTA vs micro1 for a direct comparison.
Best for: hiring teams that liked Zara's conversational format and want it on their own pipeline, for technical and non-technical roles.
2. HackerRank (Chakra)
HackerRank's AI interviewer, Chakra, went generally available on October 5, 2026, after a beta that HackerRank says ran 500K+ interviews. Per HackerRank, Chakra opens a canvas with a real-world problem, watches how the candidate works with an AI assistant, asks adaptive voice follow-ups, and scores each competency with evidence. It's aimed at roles like AI engineer, forward-deployed engineer and AI PM.
HackerRank's platform plans are public (Starter $199/mo, Pro $449/mo), but Chakra's own price isn't. The Chakra page mentions bias audits in line with NYC Local Law 144.
Best for: engineering teams that want to see how candidates build with AI, not just whether they can code.
3. CodeSignal
CodeSignal's AI Interviewer runs by phone or browser on the candidate's schedule and, per CodeSignal, asks follow-up questions when answers are thin. It sits next to CodeSignal's coding assessments and an AI co-pilot called Cosmo inside the coding IDE. The Build plan (from $79/mo billed annually) includes product, design and engineering interviewers, and Grow adds sales, customer success and marketing.
Best for: teams that want low-cost AI interviews alongside a mature coding-test library.
4. Alex
Alex, which used to be called Apriora, runs an always-on first-round interview by phone or video. It also screens resumes, scores applications for fraud risk, proctors in real time and matches a government ID to a live selfie. Alex says it supports 30 languages and 33+ ATS integrations. Pricing isn't published.
Best for: teams worried about fake or proxy candidates who want identity checks built into screening.
5. Tenzo
Tenzo says its AI recruiter, Morgan, runs 24/7 voice interviews by phone or video, along with resume review, fraud detection, scheduling and rediscovery of past candidates in your ATS. Tenzo says a de-biasing layer strips protected-class information from transcripts before scoring. It lists 40+ languages, 57+ ATS integrations and SOC 2 Type 2. Pricing is a custom quote.
Best for: staffing agencies and high-volume employers that want a multi-agent recruiter.
6. Karat
micro1's model was partly about trusted vetting. Karat offers that with people: trained Interview Engineers run structured technical interviews on your behalf. With Karat NextGen, candidates build on multi-file projects with an AI assistant while a live Karat interviewer probes their thinking. Pricing isn't published.
Best for: engineering teams that want to hand technical interviews to an outside team of humans.
When to stay with micro1
micro1 still makes sense if you're an AI lab or enterprise that wants pre-vetted expert contractors or human data. micro1 publishes a case study about a frontier AI lab that it says hired 60 competitive programmers in 3 weeks. That's a staffing and data outcome, not a software one. If that's your goal, none of the tools above replace it. If your goal is screening your own applicants, they do.

Questions
Is micro1's Zara still available to buy?
We couldn't find a current public page selling Zara as standalone software. micro1 describes Zara as its internal AI recruiter that vets experts for its own pool. A Microsoft Marketplace listing for Zara exists, but we couldn't open it to confirm what it offers.
What should I look for in a micro1 replacement?
Check that the AI holds a real two-way conversation, that it adapts follow-ups to answers, and that you control the questions and rubric. Then compare pricing models and ATS fit.
Which micro1 alternatives handle coding interviews?
HackerRank Chakra and CodeSignal come from coding assessments. NTRVSTA covers programming languages, frameworks and system design with a whiteboard. Karat uses human interviewers instead of AI.
See what an adaptive first round looks like for one of your open roles: book a 20-minute demo, or try a sample interview yourself first.
