Full disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this guide to recruiting automation software, and our product is one of the seven picks. Every fact about the other tools comes from their own websites or announcements, and the links are in the Sources list at the bottom.
TL;DR
Recruiting automation software has split into two camps. Rule-based tools run the workflows you design, while agentic tools take the next step on their own within limits you set. The right pick depends on whether your bottleneck is finding people, getting replies, or moving applicants through screening and scheduling, and on whether you want to keep your ATS.
- Best for automating the whole funnel inside the ATS you already use, with per-action approvals: NTRVSTA (us)
- Best for sourcing-led automation at enterprise scale: hireEZ
- Best for staffing firms that live on text and WhatsApp: Sense
- Best for large employers that want automation inside a full talent platform: Phenom
- Best for hourly teams that want hiring, onboarding and payroll in one system: Workstream
The picks at a glance
What actually matters when choosing recruiting automation software
Map your funnel before you look at demos. Count where the hours go each week: sourcing, chasing outreach, reading resumes, phone screens and booking interviews. Recruitment automation pays off fastest at the step that eats the most hours, and the tools on this list are strong at different steps. A sourcing-first tool won't fix a scheduling backlog, and a texting tool won't fill an empty pipeline.
Then decide how much the software may do without asking. Rule-based automation is predictable: it does exactly what the workflow says. Agentic tools are more flexible but need guardrails. Ask each vendor which actions can run on their own, which need a click from a recruiter, and which can never be automated. Our guide to AI recruiting guardrails has a checklist, and the human in the loop entry explains the term vendors keep using.
Finally, check where the data lands. If candidates, notes and scores don't flow back to your ATS, your team ends up working in two places. Ask whether a tool replaces your ATS or sits on top of it. For a wider view of the category, see our lists of AI recruiting agents and AI tools for recruiters.
1. NTRVSTA (us)
We rank NTRVSTA first on this list because the angle here is automating the whole path from open role to shortlist without swapping out your systems, and that is what we built. Carolina, our AI Head of Talent, sources candidates for each open role and runs outreach by email, SMS and WhatsApp. She scores and ranks every resume against the job and explains the ranking, runs live AI interviews that adapt to each answer (video avatar or audio, technical and non-technical, 24/7, in multiple languages), and books interviews and panels on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoom or Calendly. Recruiters can ask about the pipeline in plain English and get a morning digest in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
The part that matters most for automation is control. Each action can be set to suggest, ask first or auto, and offers and compensation changes always wait for a person. NTRVSTA connects to 70 systems, including Greenhouse, Lever, Workday and Salesforce, plus a REST API and SFTP, and setup takes a few days depending on customization. Our NYC Local Law 144 bias audit by Asenion, finalized October 20, 2026, covers the AI interviews only. Plans are public: Starter is $0 for one open role and 10 AI interviews, Team is $490/mo billed annually, and Scale is $1,490/mo billed annually (see pricing).
Where NTRVSTA isn't the right fit: it is newer and smaller than the incumbents, with no published customer case studies yet. It is not an ATS or a system of record. It does not publish a profile database, so database-first sourcing tools go deeper on search. For hourly hiring where text-to-apply is the core flow, Workstream, Paradox or Fountain are built for that.
Best for: in-house teams that want one agent to run sourcing, outreach, screening, interviews and scheduling inside their current stack, with approvals set per action.

2. hireEZ
hireEZ now leads with EZ Agent, which it describes as enterprise hiring run by agents on top of your ATS. hireEZ says its agents source from more than 1 billion profiles across 45+ platforms, read and rank every application, run conversational AI screens by voice or chat, send email, SMS and InMail sequences, and book interviews through an AI Scheduler that handles panels and reschedules. hireEZ says nothing moves forward without your approval.
The solo recruiter plan starts at $494/mo with a 7-day free trial. Enterprise pricing isn't published, and hireEZ says it runs a four-week verification before you sign. Compare it with us on hireEZ vs NTRVSTA.
Best for: enterprise TA and staffing teams that want automation to start at the top of the funnel, with a large external profile index.
3. Sense
Sense says it turns your ATS into a talent engine. Its platform covers a conversational CRM, SMS and WhatsApp messaging, a chatbot, interview scheduling (one-to-one, panel and sequential), referrals and analytics. Its AI Recruiter is pitched as a team of agents for sourcing, engagement, screening and scheduling that act within recruiter-set guardrails, and its Voice AI runs real-time phone screens with scorecards.
Sense is unusual in publishing starting prices: messaging and scheduling modules from $500/mo each, the AI Recruiter from $3,000/mo, the staffing platform from $2,000/mo and the talent acquisition platform from $7,000/mo. It lists Bullhorn, JobDiva, Avionte, Workday, Greenhouse and other systems.
Best for: staffing firms and high-volume TA teams whose automation runs mostly through text messages.
4. Phenom
Phenom sells a full talent platform: career site, talent CRM, scheduling, onboarding and an internal talent marketplace, with agents coordinated by what it calls WorkOps. Its Voice Screening Agent calls candidates soon after they apply and scores answers from 1 to 5 against a rubric, and its AI Interviewer runs real-time voice interviews with follow-ups. Phenom says every rating is a proposal a recruiter accepts or overrides.
Phenom lists SOC 2 Type II for the voice screening product and several ISO certifications. Pricing isn't published.
Best for: large and high-volume employers that want automation built into a single talent platform rather than added to one.
5. Joveo
Joveo started in programmatic job advertising and now calls itself an agentic recruiting platform. It says its agents run job and social ads, AI-built career sites, a talent CRM with email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, a chatbot, scheduling, and an AI Interviewer that works 24/7 by web, phone or WhatsApp and writes scores back to the ATS. Joveo claims more than 100 ATS integrations.
Pricing is custom, based on campaign scale and channels.
Best for: large employers and staffing firms that need more applicants first, with screening and scheduling automated behind the ads.
6. Humanly
Humanly has grown by acquisition (Teamable, Sprockets, Qualifi and HourWork among them) into a suite with an AI Recruiter, AI Interviewer, AI Notetaker, talent CRM and its own ATS. It says it engages high-volume and frontline applicants by SMS, email, chat and voice, runs structured interviews in chat, voice or video, schedules interviews and returns a ranked shortlist with transcripts.
Humanly lists Workday, iCIMS, Greenhouse and others. Pricing isn't published.
Best for: frontline employers that want conversational screening and scheduling across the funnel from one vendor.
7. Workstream
Workstream is an operating platform for hourly teams, so it automates more than hiring. It combines an ATS with text-to-apply and scheduling, onboarding, payroll, shift scheduling and labor compliance. Its Voice AI answers applicant calls, runs first-round screening calls and books interviews, and Workstream says people still make the calls on decisions.
Workstream replaces your ATS rather than sitting on top of it, and plan prices aren't published. See Workstream vs NTRVSTA for how the two approaches differ.
Best for: multi-location restaurant and retail operators that want hiring and HR automated in one system.

Questions
What is recruiting automation software?
It is software that does repeatable recruiting steps for you: finding candidates, sending outreach and follow-ups, screening applicants, booking interviews and updating the ATS. Older tools run fixed rules you set up. Newer agentic tools decide the next step on their own, inside limits you choose.
Will recruitment automation replace our recruiters?
Not in any tool on this list. Every vendor here describes a person making the hiring decision. Automation takes over the scheduling, chasing and first-pass screening, so recruiters spend more of their time with hiring managers and finalists.
Do we need to replace our ATS to automate recruiting?
Usually not. NTRVSTA, hireEZ, Sense, Phenom and Joveo all describe working on top of an existing ATS. Workstream and Humanly also sell their own ATS, which suits teams that want one system, especially for hourly hiring.
How much does recruiting automation software cost?
Public prices on this list run from a $0 starter plan to several thousand dollars a month. hireEZ starts from $494/mo for a solo recruiter, and Sense lists starting prices from $500/mo for single modules up to $7,000/mo for its full talent acquisition platform. Phenom, Joveo, Humanly and Workstream do not publish prices. NTRVSTA's plans are listed on its pricing section.
What should stay manual even with full automation?
Final hiring decisions, offers and compensation, and any rejection you would struggle to explain. Set the tool so those steps need a person, and spot-check the automated ones every week for the first month.
