NTRVSTA vs the CodeSignal AI Interviewer

Two credit-priced AI interviewers that cover more than engineering, and where each one fits better.

NTRVSTA wrote this page, and we're one of the two products on it, so read it with that in mind. We limited every claim about the CodeSignal AI interviewer to what CodeSignal publishes on its own site and newsroom, and you'll find each link in the Sources list.

The short answer

These two are closer than most pairs in this category. Both run real-time AI interviews, both cover sales and other non-engineering roles, and both publish credit-based pricing. Choose CodeSignal if you want prebuilt voice agents for specific functions next to a long-running coding assessment product, at a low self-serve entry price. Choose NTRVSTA if you want the interviewer to appear as a video avatar or audio, adjust difficulty answer by answer, and rank resumes before the interview starts.

How NTRVSTA works

NTRVSTA interviews each candidate live. You decide per role whether the interviewer shows up as a video avatar, either a ready-made one or one tailored to look like your recruiter, or speaks as audio only. As the conversation goes, it reads how well the candidate is doing and moves the difficulty up or down to match. Candidates pick their own time, any hour of the day.

One exam library serves the whole company. Engineering roles draw on programming languages, frameworks such as React and Node.js, AI/ML and DevOps tools, with a whiteboard for system design. Customer-facing and leadership roles get STAR behavioral questions and soft-skill exams. Hints let you see how someone responds to help, and every interview can run in multiple languages with your branding.

The output is a score split into technical skills, English proficiency and communication, video clips of key moments, and a report you can share. Resume scoring happens first, ranking applicants against the job description so you can decide who gets an invite.

How the CodeSignal AI interviewer works

CodeSignal started with coding assessments and live technical interviews, and later added interviewer training and an AI Interviewer. It launched AI Interviewer agents for Sales in October 2024 and for Customer Success and Support in November 2024. Its AI assistant, Cosmo, now runs across the products: as a configurable co-pilot inside the coding IDE, as feedback in interviewer training, and as an assessment builder announced in April 2026.

CodeSignal says the AI Interviewer is an agent candidates speak with by phone or in a browser, on their own schedule. It asks follow-up questions when an answer is thin, then returns an overall score, a skills evaluation, insights and a transcript, and humans make the hiring call. Prebuilt agents cover Sales, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Recruiting, BDR and Product, and you can build custom ones. CodeSignal doesn't describe a video or avatar format.

On fairness, CodeSignal says its product is built to meet AI hiring legislation, that its assessments are validated by I-O psychologists, and that it runs fairness testing and adverse impact studies with audit-ready logs. It doesn't name a published NYC Local Law 144 audit on the pages we checked. Named customers include Meta, Google, Anthropic, Instacart and Robinhood.

When CodeSignal is the better choice

  • You want a ready-made agent for a specific function, like Accounting or BDR, without designing the interview yourself.
  • You need a low entry price for a handful of interviews. CodeSignal's Build plan starts at $79/mo billed annually.
  • You also want coding assessments with an AI co-pilot in the IDE, or interviewer training for your human panel, from the same vendor.
  • You're comfortable with voice only and don't need candidates to see an interviewer on screen.

Now our own limits. NTRVSTA isn't an ATS and doesn't try to be, so it works beside the one you have, and the list of native connections is still short. There's no public API yet. Frontline hiring that runs on SMS apply and chat scheduling is a better match for Paradox or Fountain, and if you'd rather pay for human interviewers, look at Karat-style services. We're also a younger company than CodeSignal, with fewer enterprise case studies on the record.

Pricing compared

CodeSignal publishes its Hire plans. Build is $79/mo billed annually with 60 credits a year, or $99/mo monthly with 5 credits a month, and covers Product, Design and Engineering interviewers. Grow is $479/mo billed annually with 420 credits a year, or $599/mo monthly with 35 credits a month, and adds the Sales, CS and Marketing agents. Pro is custom and includes all agents. Extra credits cost $20 each, and CodeSignal says one credit is used whenever a candidate starts an assessment, AI interview or live interview. By our math, that puts an annual Build credit near $15.80 and an annual Grow credit near $13.69.

NTRVSTA credits are per minute instead of per candidate: 1 credit per minute for audio, 3 for avatar. The Free Demo is $0 for 50 credits. Starter is $299/mo for 1,500 credits, Growth is $699/mo for 4,000, and Scale is $1,999/mo for 12,500, with Enterprise custom. Growth at 80 interviews a month comes to about $8.74 per interview, or $0.35 per minute, and a 25-minute audio interview uses 25 credits while the avatar version uses 75.

The models reward different habits. Per-candidate credits are predictable when interviews run long. Per-minute credits favor shorter screens and audio. See our AI interview pricing guide or the calculator to compare at your volume.

Who should pick which

  • If you want a prebuilt Sales or Accounting agent ready on day one, pick CodeSignal.
  • If you want the interviewer to look like your own recruiter, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you run long interviews and want one flat credit per candidate, pick CodeSignal.
  • If you need resume ranking and the interview in one place, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you want a vendor-named NYC Local Law 144 audit to show your legal team, pick NTRVSTA.

Questions

Does the CodeSignal AI Interviewer work for sales roles?

Yes. CodeSignal launched its Sales agent in October 2024, and the Grow plan includes Sales, CS and Marketing interviewers. NTRVSTA also runs sales screens, using STAR behavioral questions and communication scoring.

What counts as a credit on CodeSignal?

CodeSignal says a credit is used when a candidate starts an assessment, an AI interview or a live interview. Extra credits cost $20 each. NTRVSTA credits are counted per minute of interview time instead.

Is Cosmo the same thing as the AI Interviewer?

Not quite. CodeSignal describes Cosmo as its AI assistant across products, including a co-pilot inside the coding IDE and an assessment builder. The AI Interviewer is the voice agent candidates talk to.

Can candidates see a video interviewer on CodeSignal?

CodeSignal describes its AI Interviewer as phone or browser voice and doesn't mention an avatar. NTRVSTA offers both a video avatar and audio only, chosen per role.

See an adaptive interview from the candidate's side: try a sample interview yourself, or book a 20-minute demo with our team. Bias audit details are on the compliance page.
