NTRVSTA vs the Alex AI recruiter (formerly Apriora)

Apriora is now Alex. Here's how its AI first-round recruiter compares with NTRVSTA's adaptive interviewer.

Disclosure: this page comes from NTRVSTA, and we're one of the two vendors compared. Facts about the Alex AI recruiter, formerly known as Apriora, come from alex.com, Alex's newsroom and blog, and funding coverage, with every link in the Sources section.

The short answer

If you remember Apriora, you're looking for Alex now: apriora.ai redirects to alex.com, and the company's legal name is "Apriora Inc. dba Alex." Choose Alex if you want an always-on AI recruiter that handles the whole first round, from fraud scoring and resume screening to phone or video interviews, ID checks and calendar booking, with 33+ ATS integrations. Choose NTRVSTA if the interview itself is what you care about most: a live video avatar or audio interviewer that adjusts difficulty to each answer, with technical exams, a system-design whiteboard and public pricing.

How NTRVSTA works

NTRVSTA focuses on the conversation. Each candidate gets a live interview with an AI interviewer that shows up as a video avatar or talks through audio, and they can start it any time. The interviewer listens, then raises or lowers the difficulty depending on how the last answer went, so two candidates for the same role may get different follow-ups.

The question bank is broad. Engineers can be tested on Java, Python, C++ or JavaScript, frameworks like React and Angular, AI/ML or DevOps tools, and system design on a shared whiteboard. Communication, problem-solving and leadership are covered with STAR behavioral questions, and a hint system shows who can use a nudge well. You can brand the interview, tailor an avatar to look like your recruiter, and run it in multiple languages.

Reports score technical skills, English proficiency and communication, pull video snippets of key moments, and can be shared with hiring managers. AI resume scoring ranks every applicant before the interview stage.

How the Alex AI recruiter works

Alex says its AI recruiter starts by scoring each application for fraud risk and screening resumes against your criteria. It then runs an "always-on" first-round interview by phone or video, books qualified candidates onto team calendars, and rediscovers past candidates already in your ATS. It also reaches candidates by SMS and WhatsApp, offers real-time proctoring, and runs an ID check that matches a government ID to a live selfie. Alex says it works in 30 languages and has 33+ officially supported ATS integrations.

The company used to be called Apriora. Today apriora.ai returns a permanent redirect to alex.com, and the alex.com footer names the entity as "Apriora Inc. dba Alex." On September 29, 2025, Alex announced $20M raised in total: a $17M Series A led by Peak XV plus a $3M seed. One naming note: a separate London recruiting company is also called Alex, and it isn't the same business.

Alex links a Trust Center and an Ethical AI page, and its homepage shows ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 badges. We didn't find SOC 2, an NYC Local Law 144 audit or EU AI Act statements on the pages we checked. Named customers include EY, Upwork, Randstad, Chick-fil-A and Dow Jones.

When Alex is the better choice

  • Candidate fraud is a real problem for you, and you want fraud scoring, proctoring and government-ID matching in the same flow as the interview.
  • You're a staffing firm that wants the AI to rediscover past candidates in your ATS and book interviews directly onto recruiter calendars.
  • You need SMS and WhatsApp outreach next to phone and video screens.
  • You want a long list of supported ATS connections. Alex says 33+, and ours is shorter.

Where we fall short, plainly: NTRVSTA is the interview and screening step, and your ATS keeps doing the rest. We don't offer a public API yet. We don't run SMS-first hourly hiring flows with chat scheduling, which Paradox or Fountain are designed for. If you want human interviewers on the call, look at a Karat-style service. And our list of published enterprise case studies is shorter than older vendors' lists.

Pricing compared

Alex doesn't publish pricing. Its pricing page offers a 30-minute demo instead of plan prices.

With NTRVSTA, you can see the cost up front on our pricing calculator. Credits are spent per minute of interview: 1 for audio, 3 for an avatar. Starter is $299/mo for 1,500 credits (about 30 interviews). Growth is $699/mo for 4,000 credits (about 80). Scale is $1,999/mo for 12,500 credits (about 250). There's also a $0 Free Demo with 50 credits, and Enterprise plans with SSO/SAML, a dedicated CSM and on-prem options.

The site's worked example puts Growth at about $8.74 per interview when you run 80 a month, which is $0.35 per minute. A 25-minute interview uses 25 credits in audio or 75 with an avatar.

Who should pick which

  • If you want one AI recruiter to cover fraud checks, screening, interviews and scheduling end to end, pick Alex.
  • If you need a system-design whiteboard or coding exams inside the interview, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you staff contract roles at volume and reuse past candidates often, pick Alex.
  • If you want candidates to see an avatar styled after your own recruiter, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If your buying process needs public pricing and a published LL144 audit, pick NTRVSTA.
