NTRVSTA vs Codility: AI interviews vs coding assessments

Codility measures code under controlled conditions. NTRVSTA holds the conversation. Here's how to choose, or combine them.

Disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this guide to Codility vs NTRVSTA, and we make NTRVSTA. Everything we state about Codility comes from Codility's website or the press coverage in our Sources list.

The short answer

Codility is a coding assessment platform. Candidates take real-world coding tasks on their own (Screen), and your engineers run structured live interviews in a VS Code environment (Interview). It doesn't offer an AI interviewer. NTRVSTA is a live AI interviewer that adapts difficulty to each answer and covers non-technical roles too. Choose Codility if you need rigorous, proctored coding tests with controlled AI use. Choose NTRVSTA if you want a spoken first-round interview, run by AI, that tests how candidates explain their thinking.

How NTRVSTA works

A coding test shows you the code. A conversation shows you the reasoning behind it. NTRVSTA's AI interviewer, which you can run as a video avatar or audio only, talks with each candidate in real time and adjusts to what they say. Answer well and the next question goes deeper; miss and it eases back. Candidates start whenever they want, around the clock.

Technical coverage comes from the exam library: Java, Python, C++, JavaScript and more, React, Angular, Node.js, AI/ML and DevOps tools. System-design interviews include an interactive whiteboard. A hint system lets candidates ask for help so you can see how they respond to it. Behavioral questions follow STAR, and soft skills like communication and leadership are covered for the roles that need them.

Reports include a score breakdown (technical skills, English proficiency, communication), video snippets of key moments, and a link you can share with the hiring manager. AI resume scoring ranks every applicant against your job description. NTRVSTA connects to your ATS (Lever and others) and takes a few days to set up for most teams.

How Codility works

Codility says it offers three things. Screen sends candidates async, real-world coding tasks. Interview gives your engineers a structured live technical interview inside a VS Code environment. Skills Intelligence maps skills across your teams. Assessments are designed with I/O psychologists, per Codility.

Codility has leaned into AI skills. Its Agentic AI Copilot runs inside the coding environment, and you decide how much candidates may use it. Codility says this lets you test prompt engineering, judging AI output and debugging AI-written code. Integrity tools include proctoring, ID verification and impersonation detection. It lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, CCPA and WCAG 2.2 AA.

Codility is independent. Its last disclosed raise was a $22M Series A in 2020. Customers it names include GitHub, SpaceX, Tesla, SAP and Barclays.

When Codility is the better choice

  • You need proctored coding tests with ID verification and impersonation detection, for example in regulated industries or high-volume graduate hiring.
  • You want to measure how candidates use an AI copilot under rules you set, which Codility's Agentic AI Copilot is built for.
  • Your engineers want to run their own live interviews in a VS Code environment.
  • You need integrations Codility lists, such as Ashby, Workday or SAP, or an API.

To be clear about NTRVSTA's limits: we don't run proctored coding tests with ID checks, and we don't give your engineers a live IDE. We're a screening and interview layer, not an ATS. Our native integration list is shorter than many platforms', and our public API is only "coming soon." High-volume hourly hiring fits chat-first tools like Paradox or Fountain. Human interviewers on demand fit Karat. And we're a newer company with fewer published enterprise case studies.

Pricing compared

Codility's plans are public. Starter is $1,200 a year for 120 invite credits and 1 user. Scale is shown at $6,000 for 300 invite credits (a maximum of 25 a month) and 3 users. Custom is priced by sales and adds interview recording, enterprise ATS connections, SSO and AI follow-up questions.

We charge for interview time rather than test invites. Every plan is listed in our pricing section, and minutes are paid for with credits (one per audio minute, three per avatar minute). The tiers: a $0 Free Demo with 50 credits; Starter, $299/mo, 1,500 credits or roughly 30 interviews; Growth, $699/mo, 4,000 credits or roughly 80; Scale, $1,999/mo, 12,500 credits or roughly 250, plus an SLA. Enterprise plans are quoted and add SSO/SAML, a dedicated CSM and an on-prem option.

The per-interview figure on Growth is about $8.74, assuming 80 interviews a month, or $0.35 per minute. Codility's invite credits pay for tests, while our credits pay for interview minutes, so compare cost per qualified candidate, not per unit. Our AI interview pricing guide shows how.

Who should pick which

  • If you need proctored, standardized coding tests for large applicant pools, pick Codility.
  • If you want candidates to explain their thinking out loud, with follow-ups, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you hire for non-technical roles too, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If testing how candidates use AI coding tools is central to your process, pick Codility.
  • If you want to start free and scale monthly, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you want both, use NTRVSTA to interview and Codility to test code for the shortlist.

Questions

Does Codility have an AI interviewer?

No. We found no AI interviewer product on Codility's site. Its live interviews are run by your engineers, and its AI features are an in-IDE Agentic AI Copilot and, on the Custom plan, AI follow-up questions within assessments.

How much does Codility cost?

Codility's pricing page shows Starter at $1,200 a year for 120 invite credits and 1 user, and Scale at $6,000 for 300 invite credits and 3 users. Custom plans are priced by sales.

Is a coding test or an AI interview better for screening engineers?

They measure different things. A coding test shows whether someone can produce working code under set conditions. An adaptive interview shows how they reason, explain trade-offs and respond to follow-ups. Many teams use an interview first and a coding test for the shortlist, or the other way round.

Does Codility publish a bias audit?

We didn't find a published NYC Local Law 144 audit. Codility's Custom plan includes assessment validation and fairness analysis. NTRVSTA's independent LL144 audit by Asenion was finalized on October 20, 2026.

Try the interview side of the process for yourself. Start a sample AI interview in your browser, or book a 20-minute demo to see an engineering role set up. Audit details are on our compliance page.

We checked pricing and features for every product here in October 2026. They change often, so confirm with each vendor before you buy.
