Full disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this guide to video interview software, and our AI avatar interviewer is one of eight products covered. Other vendors' details come from their own sites, cited at the end. We ranked two long-established video suites above ourselves because they cover formats we don't.
TL;DR
Video interview software now covers three different jobs: live video rooms for human interviews, one-way recordings that candidates make on their own time, and AI interviewers that hold the conversation on video. The best video interview software for you depends on which of those you need. Suites do all three; specialists do one well for less.
- Best all-in-one suite with live, one-way and AI interviews: HireVue
- Best for structured live and recorded interviews in enterprise and public sector: VidCruiter
- Best for a live AI interviewer on video that adapts to each answer: NTRVSTA (us)
- Best for UK and EU teams that want async video with right-to-work checks: Willo
- Best low-cost one-way video for small teams: Hireflix
The picks at a glance
What actually matters when choosing video interview software
Name the format before the vendor. If hiring managers run live panels, you need scheduling, a reliable video room and structured guides. If you want candidates to record answers on their own time, you need a smooth one-way flow that works on any phone without an app. If you want the first round to run without a person, you need an AI interviewer. Some suites do all three, but you'll pay for what you don't use.
Check how answers get scored. Plain recording tools leave review to humans, which is fine for small volume. Others transcribe and summarize, and a few score answers against a rubric. Ask what's scored (the words, not someone's face or accent), and whether you can see the reasons. Our guide to how AI interviews are scored explains what good scoring evidence looks like.
Plan for integrity. Remote video has opened the door to stand-ins, scripted answers and deepfakes. Tools in this list handle it differently: VidCruiter and Talview advertise deepfake detection, Willo adds ID and right-to-work checks, and adaptive AI interviews make reading from a script harder because the next question depends on the last answer.
1. HireVue
HireVue covers the widest spread of video interview formats here. It offers one-way (on-demand) video, live video interviews with a co-pilot that works inside Zoom and Teams, and since June 2026 a two-way voice AI Interviewer with probing follow-ups. Game-based assessments and a skills test builder sit on the same platform.
On security and compliance, HireVue cites SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001 and FedRAMP, plus fairness audits it says cover NYC Local Law 144. Prices aren't published. Compare the two of us on NTRVSTA vs HireVue, or see HireVue alternatives.
Best for: enterprises that want live, one-way and AI interviews from one long-standing vendor.
2. VidCruiter
VidCruiter is a structured interviewing suite. VidCruiter says it offers pre-recorded and live panel video, scheduling, interview guides, automated reference checks, skills tests, proctoring and an ATS. Its AI scores pre-recorded answers against rubrics, writes notes and summaries, builds interview guides, and checks for fraud and deepfakes. VidCruiter describes these AI tools as assistive, and lists a fully autonomous AI Interviewer as coming soon.
It integrates with Workday, Dayforce, SAP, Oracle and UKG, and with Zoom, Teams and Google Meet. VidCruiter lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. Pricing isn't published. See NTRVSTA vs VidCruiter for more.
Best for: enterprise and public-sector teams that want humans running structured video interviews with strong compliance paperwork.
3. NTRVSTA (us)
NTRVSTA is the video interview where the interviewer is AI. Candidates meet a video avatar (one of ours, or one made to look like your recruiter) or an audio-only interviewer, at any hour. The conversation is live: the avatar listens, follows up, and moves difficulty up or down with each answer. That works for engineering roles, with system-design questions on an interactive whiteboard, and for sales, support and leadership roles, with STAR behavioral questions.
Afterward you get a score breakdown, video snippets of the key moments, and a report you can share. Avatar minutes use 3 credits and audio minutes 1, on public plans that start at $299/mo after a $0 Free Demo. Our NYC Local Law 144 bias audit, by Asenion and finalized October 20, 2026, is on our compliance page.
Where NTRVSTA isn't the right fit: we don't host live video rooms for your own interviewers, and we don't do one-way recordings. If you need panel scheduling or a recorded-answer workflow, choose a suite above. NTRVSTA also doesn't replace your ATS; it connects to Lever and others, but that list is short and there's no public API yet.
Best for: teams that want the first video round handled by an adaptive AI interviewer, for technical and non-technical roles.

4. Spark Hire
Spark Hire started in one-way video and now leads with an ATS for small and mid-sized organizations. It still sells standalone one-way and scheduled live video interviews. Spark Hire says its AI summarizes responses, scores submissions against key factors and transcribes in 50+ languages. Video plans run from $249/mo billed annually (unlimited jobs and users) or $299/mo monthly.
Best for: small and mid-sized employers that want straightforward video interviews, with an ATS available if they need it.
5. Willo
Willo lets candidates answer on their own schedule by video, written answer, file upload or multiple choice, using 1,500+ ready-made question sets or your own. Its Willo Intelligence layer adds transcripts, summaries and suggested follow-up questions, and Willo Verified adds ID, right-to-work and background checks. Willo says it supports 18+ languages and holds ISO 27001.
Pricing is per role: Willo Lite is GBP 49 for each live role each month, contract-free, while Enterprise begins at GBP 2,999 annually. Nonprofits get 50% off.
Best for: UK and EU employers that want affordable async video with built-in right-to-work checks.
6. Talview
Talview pairs an AI video interviewer, Ivy, with integrity tools. Talview says Ivy uses multilingual, brand-aligned personas, asks contextual follow-ups and evaluates answers in real time. It also offers live interview rooms for code jams and whiteboarding, AI proctoring, identity checks and deepfake detection.
Pricing is custom and unit-based, with a minimum of about 150 to 200 candidates. Talview lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.
Best for: enterprises and exam bodies where cheating risk is the main concern.
7. Interviewer.AI
Interviewer.AI offers two video formats. The Essential plan ($199/mo) sends AI-scored one-way video interviews built from your job description, along with resume screening. The Professional plan ($399/mo) adds what the company calls conversational, avatar-led interviews with dynamic follow-ups. ATS integrations are on the Enterprise plan, and there's a 14-day free trial.
Best for: SMB and mid-market teams that want to start with one-way AI video and try avatar interviews later.
8. Hireflix
Hireflix does one thing: one-way video. Hireflix says you build an interview once, invite unlimited candidates who record on any device with no app or account, and share recordings with your team. It deliberately leaves out live interviews, assessments and scheduling. Plans are $75/mo or $150/mo billed yearly, with a one-month free trial.
Best for: small teams that want the simplest, lowest-cost recorded interview.

Questions
What's the difference between live and one-way video interviews?
In a live video interview, the candidate talks with someone in real time, whether a person or an AI interviewer. In a one-way interview, they record answers to set questions, and reviewers watch later. Live interviews can follow up; one-way interviews are easier to schedule.
Is an AI avatar interview a video interview?
Yes, in the sense that the candidate sees and talks with an interviewer on screen. The difference is that the interviewer is AI, so it's available at any time and asks follow-up questions based on each answer, rather than reading a fixed list.
Do candidates need to download an app?
Not for most tools here. Hireflix says candidates record on any device with no app or registration, and Willo says they can answer on any device. NTRVSTA's sample interview starts at app.ntrvsta.com. Check each vendor's device support if many of your applicants use older phones.
How is video interview software priced?
Models vary a lot. Hireflix and Spark Hire charge a flat monthly fee, Willo charges per live role, NTRVSTA uses credits per interview minute, and HireVue, VidCruiter and Talview quote custom prices. Work out the cost per hire at your real volume.
Want to see an AI avatar run a live video interview? Schedule a 20-minute demo, or talk to the avatar in a sample interview. If you only need recordings, our list of one-way video interview software goes deeper.
