A quick disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this, and we're one of the Willo alternatives listed, so this is a vendor's take. We used only each company's own pages for the facts about Willo and the other tools, and we link them all at the end.
Willo is asynchronous screening done well. Candidates answer structured questions on any device, whenever they like, by video, written answer, file upload or multiple choice, and Willo Verified adds ID, right-to-work and background checks. Teams still compare Willo competitors for structural reasons. Some want a live conversation that follows up in the moment instead of recorded answers. Some prefer pricing that isn't per role in pounds, or need resume scoring, which Willo doesn't list. Others hire in New York City and want a published Local Law 144 bias audit, which we didn't find on Willo's site. If you hire mostly in the UK and value right-to-work checks, Willo may still be the best fit.
Willo alternatives at a glance
1. NTRVSTA (us)
Willo collects answers and leaves the follow-up to your team. NTRVSTA does the follow-up live. Our AI interviewer, a video avatar or an audio voice, talks with each candidate in real time and moves the difficulty up after strong answers and down after weak ones. Candidates still choose their own time, around the clock, so you keep the scheduling benefit of async screening. Engineers get questions from an exam library and a system-design whiteboard, and other roles get STAR behavioral questions and soft-skills checks. Interviews can run in multiple languages and carry your branding.
Reports include a score breakdown (technical skills, English proficiency, communication), video snippets of key moments, and AI resume scores against the job description. Our NYC Local Law 144 audit by Asenion is on the compliance page. What Willo has that we don't: identity, right-to-work and background checks, and file-upload and multiple-choice answer types. See NTRVSTA vs Willo for the full comparison.
Best for: teams that like on-demand screening but want follow-up questions asked in the moment, for technical and non-technical roles.

2. Hireflix
Hireflix is the closest to Willo's core with a different price model. You set up a one-way video interview once and invite unlimited candidates, who record on any device with no app or registration. Hireflix says it purposely leaves out live interviews, assessments and scheduling, and its site doesn't mention AI features. Candidates can take it in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Finnish, Polish, German and 10 more languages.
Instead of charging per role, Hireflix charges by company size: Small (under 50 employees) is $75/mo and Medium (50 to 250) is $150/mo, billed yearly, with a one-month free trial and no credit card. It lists SOC 2 and GDPR, and integrates with Lever, Greenhouse, Workable, Ashby and Teamtailor.
Best for: small companies that run many roles at once and want a flat, predictable bill.
3. Spark Hire
Spark Hire is a common US alternative to Willo. Its one-way video product auto-summarizes candidate responses, scores submissions against key factors and transcribes in 50+ languages, per Spark Hire. The company now leads with an ATS for small and medium organizations, which adds AI resume review and scheduling, and it sells a behavioral assessment too.
Video interviews start at $249/mo on annual billing (unlimited jobs and users) or $299/mo monthly. Spark Hire doesn't list identity or right-to-work checks.
Best for: US SMBs that want recorded video plus a simple ATS from one vendor.
4. VidCruiter
VidCruiter is a broader, enterprise-grade suite. It offers pre-recorded and live video interviews, scheduling, structured interview guides, reference checks, skills testing, proctoring and an ATS. VidCruiter says its AI scores pre-recorded answers against rubrics, writes notes and summaries, and detects fraud and deepfakes, while describing current AI as "assistive, not autonomous." An autonomous AI Interviewer is listed as coming soon.
VidCruiter lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and PIPEDA, integrates with Workday, SAP, Oracle and UKG, and doesn't publish prices.
Best for: large employers and public-sector teams that need structured video interviewing with heavy compliance documentation.
5. Interviewer.AI
Interviewer.AI offers two steps up from Willo's format. The Essential plan scores one-way video answers with AI and screens resumes, at $199/mo billed monthly. The Professional plan, $399/mo, adds avatar-led conversational interviews with dynamic follow-up questions. It also lists integrity features like tab-switch and lip-sync detection, ID verification and voice checks.
A 14-day free trial is available on paid plans, and ATS integrations (Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Greenhouse and others) come with Enterprise.
Best for: Willo users who want AI to score the recordings, and a path to avatar interviews on the same account.
6. Sapia.ai
Sapia.ai takes the async idea in a different direction: a structured interview by text chat rather than recorded video, which candidates can finish on a phone. Sapia.ai says it designs each role's interview in a Job Analysis Studio, scores every candidate, and pushes results into ATS platforms such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, iCIMS and Tribepad. Holland and Barrett is among its published customers.
Sapia.ai lists SOC 2 Type 2 and several ISO standards, links an independent bias audit, and doesn't publish prices.
Best for: high-volume UK and ANZ employers that prefer text answers to video.
When to stay with Willo
- You hire mainly in the UK or EU and need ID, right-to-work and background checks in the same flow, through Willo Verified.
- You want candidates to choose how they respond, by video, written answer, file upload or multiple choice, across 18+ languages.

Questions
Is Willo an AI interviewer?
No. Willo is asynchronous: candidates answer your questions on their own schedule by video, text, file upload or multiple choice. Its Willo Intelligence layer adds transcripts, summaries and suggested follow-up questions, but Willo doesn't describe an AI that interviews candidates in real time.
How much does Willo cost?
Willo charges by the role on its entry plan: Lite is £49 for each live role per month, with no contract and a cap of 5 live roles. The annual Enterprise plan starts at £2,999. Non-profits get half off, and Willo doesn't list a free trial.
Which Willo alternative costs the least?
It depends on how you hire. Hireflix charges by company size, from $75/mo billed yearly for teams under 50 employees, which can work out cheaper than Willo's per-role price if you have many open roles. If you only have one or two roles open, Willo Lite may cost less.
Which Willo competitors include identity or fraud checks?
VidCruiter says it detects fraud and deepfakes and offers proctoring, and Interviewer.AI lists ID verification, voice checks and AI-generated answer detection. Willo's own Willo Verified covers ID, right-to-work and background checks, which is a strong reason UK employers stay.
