CoderPad alternatives for live coding and technical screens

Other live pads, assessment suites, human interviewers and an adaptive AI interviewer, each matched to what you use CoderPad for.

Full disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this list of CoderPad alternatives, and we included ourselves. Anything we say about CoderPad or the others is drawn from their own websites and announcements, which you'll find in Sources.

CoderPad is the standard live coding pad for a lot of engineering teams, and it now covers screening too, with Screen (coding assessments) and Qualify (an AI-reviewed video pre-screen). So why compare CoderPad alternatives? Usually because of a structural gap. Qualify is asynchronous: candidates record video answers to set questions and an AI scores them, so there's no real-time AI interviewer. Every CoderPad interview still needs a human engineer in the pad. ATS integrations and proctoring sit on the Enterprise plan. And CoderPad is built for engineers, so non-technical roles need another tool. If your team mostly runs collaborative live coding sessions, CoderPad may be exactly what you need.

1. NTRVSTA (us)

NTRVSTA doesn't try to be a better pad. It changes who runs the first technical round. Instead of an engineer joining a pad, or a candidate recording answers for Qualify, our AI interviewer holds a live conversation as a video avatar or as audio. It asks about the candidate's experience, digs into their answers, and adjusts difficulty in real time. For system design, an interactive whiteboard lets candidates sketch their approach while the interviewer probes trade-offs.

The exam library spans languages (Java, Python, C++, JavaScript and more), frameworks (React, Angular, Node.js) and AI/ML and DevOps tools, plus soft skills for non-technical roles. You get a score breakdown, video snippets and a shareable report for each candidate, and AI resume scoring to decide who gets invited. What we don't do: provide a collaborative coding pad for human interviewers, a 99+ language runtime, or a public API (that's coming soon). The NTRVSTA vs CoderPad page compares the two in depth.

Best for: teams that want a live, adaptive AI first round before engineers spend time in a pad.

2. HackerRank

HackerRank covers the same ground as CoderPad (Screen for assessments, Interview for live rounds) and adds Chakra, an AI interviewer generally available since October 5, 2026. Per HackerRank, Chakra opens a real-world problem in a canvas, observes how the candidate uses an AI assistant, and asks adaptive voice follow-ups. HackerRank lists 40+ ATS, calendar and video integrations and a REST API.

Best for: teams that want screen, live interview and AI interviewer under one roof.

3. CodeSignal

CodeSignal offers coding assessments, live interviews and an AI Interviewer that runs by phone or browser with adaptive follow-ups. Its Cosmo co-pilot can be turned on inside the IDE so you see how candidates use AI, similar to CoderPad's AI assistants in the pad. Build starts at $79/mo billed annually.

Best for: teams that want a live technical environment and AI-run interviews at a low published price.

4. Codility

Codility's Interview product runs structured live technical interviews in a VS Code environment, and its Screen product sends async real-world coding tasks. It emphasizes integrity, with proctoring, ID verification and impersonation detection, and lets you set how candidates may use its Agentic AI Copilot. It lists SOC 2, ISO 27001 and WCAG 2.2 AA.

Best for: enterprises that want structured, proctored assessments and live interviews.

5. Karat

If the real cost of CoderPad is engineer hours, Karat addresses that. Its trained Interview Engineers run your live technical interviews using structured content and rubrics. In Karat NextGen, candidates work on multi-file projects with an AI assistant while the interviewer observes and asks about their reasoning. Pricing isn't published.

Best for: engineering orgs that want humans running live rounds, just not their own engineers.

6. Glider AI

Glider AI bundles several stages: an AI recruiter and voice phone screens, ID verification and AI proctoring, technical assessments and coding simulations, and AI video, one-way video and live coding interviews. It's heavily used by staffing and contingent-workforce firms and lists integrations with Bullhorn, Beeline and Magnit. Findem announced a definitive agreement to acquire Glider AI on March 19, 2026. Pricing isn't published.

Best for: staffing firms that need skills validation, proctoring and live coding in one stack.

When to stay with CoderPad

  • Your interviewers love the pad, and live pair-coding is the core of your process.
  • You want candidates using real AI coding agents (Claude Code and Codex on Frontier Lite) while interviewers watch prompts and edits.
  • You value broad language support: CoderPad says Interview covers 99+ languages and frameworks.
  • You want low published prices with a free trial and no credit card, starting at $80/mo billed annually.

Questions

Is CoderPad Qualify an AI interviewer?

Not a live one. CoderPad says candidates record video responses to set questions, and an AI reviewer scores them against your rubric to build a ranked shortlist. There's no real-time conversation.

What's the best CoderPad alternative for live coding?

HackerRank Interview and Codility Interview are the closest live coding alternatives. CodeSignal also runs live technical interviews. All three keep a human interviewer in the session.

Can an AI interviewer run a system design round?

Some can. NTRVSTA runs system-design interviews with an interactive whiteboard and adapts its follow-ups to the candidate's answers. Many teams still keep a human for the final design round.
