iMocha alternatives: 6 skills test and AI interview tools for 2026

iMocha is a test library first and an interviewer second. If you need the reverse, or a price you can see, here is how the options compare.

Disclosure: NTRVSTA wrote this list of iMocha alternatives, and our product is the first entry on it. Everything we say about iMocha and the other five vendors comes from their own websites and announcements, linked under Sources.

iMocha has grown from a test library into what it calls a skills intelligence platform: 10,000+ validated assessments, skills inference across a whole workforce, and an AI interviewer named Tara. That suits large employers, but if the first-round interview is the job you need done, a full skills platform can be more than you will use. iMocha doesn't publish prices or a free trial, doesn't list resume scoring, and we didn't find a published NYC Local Law 144 bias audit on its site. If you're mapping skills across a large workforce, though, iMocha may be hard to replace.

1. NTRVSTA (us)

At iMocha, Tara is one feature inside a large assessment suite. NTRVSTA is built around the interview itself. Candidates talk live with an AI interviewer, as a video avatar or audio only, at any hour. After a strong answer the next question gets harder, and after a weak one the interviewer eases off. Technical rounds draw on an exam library (programming languages, frameworks, AI/ML and DevOps tools), and system-design questions come with an interactive whiteboard. Non-technical roles get STAR behavioral questions and soft-skills checks. Before anyone is invited, AI resume scoring ranks applicants against your job description, a step iMocha doesn't list.

Plans and credit costs sit on our pricing page, and our NYC Local Law 144 audit (Asenion, finalized October 20, 2026) is on our compliance page. The honest trade-off: we have no 10,000-test library, no proctored exams and no workforce skills mapping, and fewer published enterprise case studies. Details are in NTRVSTA vs iMocha.

Best for: hiring teams that want an adaptive first-round interview for engineers and non-technical staff alike, with prices on the website.

2. HackerRank

HackerRank's answer to Tara is Chakra, which left beta on October 5, 2026; HackerRank says the beta alone produced over 500,000 interviews. Instead of a question list, Chakra hands the candidate a real-world problem on a shared canvas, observes how they use an AI assistant to solve it, and questions them by voice about each decision. HackerRank says each competency gets a score backed by evidence from the session.

HackerRank's Starter plan is $199/mo and Pro is $449/mo, with Enterprise quoted. Chakra isn't priced on its product page, which offers a free trial, and the page mentions bias audits in line with NYC Local Law 144. Chakra targets technical and technical-adjacent roles, so it covers less non-technical hiring than iMocha does.

Best for: engineering orgs that want coding tests and an AI interviewer from one widely used developer platform.

3. CodeSignal

CodeSignal pairs its coding assessments and live interview tools with an AI Interviewer that candidates talk to by phone or in the browser on their own schedule. CodeSignal says it follows up when answers are thin and returns a score, skills evaluation and transcript.

Prices are public: Build starts at $79/mo and Grow at $479/mo, both billed annually, and Pro is quoted. CodeSignal doesn't describe a video avatar, and it doesn't name an LL144 audit, though it says the product is built to meet AI hiring legislation.

Best for: companies hiring both engineers and go-to-market staff that want a low starting price.

4. TestGorilla

If the test library is what you use most in iMocha, TestGorilla is the self-serve take on that idea. It says it offers 350+ pre-employment tests, job simulations and custom tests, all scored automatically. It also sells "AI interviews" with 3 to 9 structured questions and dynamic follow-ups that candidates complete on their own time.

TestGorilla is one of the few vendors here with a free plan ($0, with 10 assessment credits a month). Assessments Core starts at $215/mo and Plus at $520/mo, both billed annually.

Best for: smaller teams that want broad skills testing without a sales call.

5. Vervoe

Vervoe takes a work-sample approach. Its AI Assessment Builder drafts job simulations from your job description, using spreadsheet tasks, code, video, text and multiple choice, and machine-learning models grade and rank candidates with explainable scores, per Vervoe. It adds chat and voice screening, ID verification and proctoring.

Vervoe says it has a verified Holistic AI NYC bias audit, repeated each year, and it lists ISO/IEC 27001 and GDPR. Prices are on request.

Best for: teams that would rather watch candidates do a slice of the job than ask them about it.

6. Codility

Codility is the most engineering-only option on this list. It sells Screen (async, real-world coding tasks), Interview (structured live technical interviews in a VS Code environment, run by your engineers). You decide how candidates may use its Agentic AI Copilot, and Codility adds proctoring, ID verification and impersonation detection.

There's no AI interviewer, since Codility's interviews are human-led. Starter costs $1,200 a year for 120 invite credits and one user, Scale is listed at $6,000, and Custom is quoted. Codility lists SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Best for: enterprises that want rigorous, proctored coding tests and prefer to keep humans in the interview seat.

When to stay with iMocha

  • You measure skills across your current workforce, not only applicants. iMocha's skills inference reaches well past hiring, and none of the tools above are built for that.
  • You want coding, cognitive, domain and communication tests from one vendor at enterprise scale. A library of 10,000+ assessments takes years to rebuild elsewhere.
  • Your HR stack runs on Workday, SAP SuccessFactors or Oracle, all of which iMocha integrates with, or you rely on the Lightcast skills taxonomy.
  • Procurement asks for SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022, both listed by iMocha.

Questions

What are the best iMocha alternatives?

It depends on which part of iMocha you rely on. For the AI interview, NTRVSTA, HackerRank's Chakra and CodeSignal's AI Interviewer are the closest matches. For the test library, TestGorilla and Vervoe are the usual comparisons, and Codility fits teams that only hire engineers.

Does iMocha publish its pricing?

No. iMocha's pricing page didn't list plan prices when we checked, and we didn't find a published free trial. NTRVSTA, HackerRank, CodeSignal, TestGorilla and Codility all publish at least some of their prices.

Is iMocha's Tara a live AI interviewer?

iMocha describes Tara as an adaptive agent that starts after an audio check, asks questions candidates answer out loud, follows up on what they say and scores skills in real time against role profiles. iMocha's pages don't fully spell out whether Tara is voice only or also video.

Which iMocha competitor has a published bias audit?

NTRVSTA publishes an NYC Local Law 144 bias audit by Asenion, finalized October 20, 2026. Vervoe says it has a Holistic AI NYC bias audit, and HackerRank's Chakra page mentions bias audits in line with Local Law 144. We didn't find a published audit on iMocha's site.
