NTRVSTA vs Mercor: what the Mercor AI interview is for now

Mercor built a well-known AI interviewer, then pointed it at its own expert marketplace. Here's what that means for employers.

A note before you read: we wrote this comparison, and NTRVSTA is one of the two companies in it. For Mercor, we used only Mercor's website, its blog, its talent policies and TechCrunch's report on its funding. The links are at the end.

The short answer

Many employers who search for the Mercor AI interview want to run AI interviews on their own applicants. That's not what Mercor sells today. Mercor uses its AI interviewer to vet experts for its own marketplace, and it sells human data, evals and embedded engineers to AI labs and enterprises. Choose Mercor if you want vetted domain experts or training data delivered. Choose NTRVSTA if you want to put your own candidates through a live, adaptive AI interview, with resume scoring and public pricing.

How NTRVSTA works

NTRVSTA is a tool your recruiting team runs. Resumes come in and get scored against the job description, so the strongest applicants rise to the top. You invite them to a live AI interview that runs 24/7. The interviewer is a video avatar or an audio voice, set per role, and it can carry your brand and speak multiple languages.

Unlike a fixed script, the interview moves with the candidate. A sharp answer brings a harder follow-up. A shaky one brings a question pitched where they can show what they know. The exam library spans coding languages, frameworks, AI/ML and DevOps, a whiteboard for system design, and soft skills like leadership, all with STAR behavioral questions and optional hints. When it's done, you get scores for technical skills, English proficiency and communication, clips of key moments and a shareable report.

How Mercor works

Mercor now describes its mission as "organizing human intelligence to power the AI economy." Applicants upload a resume and take a short AI interview, which Mercor says lasts about 20 minutes. Per Mercor, the AI interviewer writes its questions from the resume and job description, transcribes the answers and evaluates them. Experts who pass join a pool and get invited to paid AI-training projects. Mercor lists expert rates averaging around $98 an hour, with listed roles from $60 to $98 an hour.

Mercor's earlier blog described employers watching AI interviews and hiring candidates through the platform. The current site sells human data, evals and embedded engineers instead. TechCrunch reported on October 27, 2025 that Mercor raised a $350M Series C at a $10B valuation. Mercor names Harvey, Ramp, Cognition and Sierra as partners on its APEX benchmark.

On data handling, Mercor links a security and trust portal and says automated anonymization masks more than 60 categories of sensitive identifiers. It doesn't name certifications on its homepage, and we didn't find a published bias audit.

When Mercor is the better choice

  • You need domain experts for AI-training work, and you'd rather pay for vetted people than build a pipeline.
  • You're an AI lab buying human data or model evaluations, which is Mercor's core business.
  • You want embedded engineers supplied, not a tool for interviewing your own hires.

To be fair about our side: NTRVSTA gives you software, not people. It handles screening and interviews and leaves the rest to your ATS, which you keep. Our native ATS connections are fewer than the large suites offer, and the API isn't out yet. Teams hiring hourly staff by SMS and chat scheduling will be better served by Paradox or Fountain, and teams who want humans to conduct the interviews should look at a Karat-style service. We're also smaller and newer than many vendors you'll compare us with.

Pricing compared

Mercor doesn't publish software pricing. The dollar figures it does show are expert pay rates, around $98 an hour on average, which tell you what talent earns rather than what a client pays.

NTRVSTA's plan prices sit on our pricing page. Audio interviews use 1 credit per minute and avatar interviews use 3 per minute.

  • Free Demo: $0 for 50 credits, 1 concurrent interview.
  • Starter: $299/mo for 1,500 credits (about 30 interviews).
  • Growth: $699/mo for 4,000 credits (about 80 interviews).
  • Scale: $1,999/mo for 12,500 credits (about 250 interviews) with an SLA.
  • Enterprise: custom, with SSO/SAML, a dedicated CSM and on-prem options.

The worked example on our site: Growth at 80 interviews a month is about $8.74 per interview, or $0.35 per minute. Twenty-five minutes of audio costs 25 credits, and 25 minutes with an avatar costs 75.

Who should pick which

  • If you want vetted contractors for AI-training projects, pick Mercor.
  • If you have 200 applicants for a support lead role and need a first round this week, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If your company buys human data or evals, pick Mercor.
  • If you want the Mercor-style AI interview experience for your own pipeline, pick NTRVSTA.
  • If you need to show a published bias audit, pick NTRVSTA.
